Irish Centre Housing enjoys great partnership working with Homeless Link and were put in touch with a voluntary group called "Master Gardeners", who organised a gardening day with residents on Sunday 21st August 2011.
On the day, volunteers came equipped with tools and sandwiches!
The event was well attended by residents with little or no experience of gardening. They pulled out weeds, harvested root vegetables, sowed winter seeds and picked plums and pears. We anticipate some fruitful months ahead!
Residents were given lots of advice and gardening tips and will now be able to tend to the the garden themselves.

Volunteer, Kate Poland said "I think we really made a huge difference."
One resident commented "I really enjoyed it and it has inspired me to continue my gardening course."
Another resident said "I've never picked a plum or sowed a seed. My seeds are growing now and I feel really proud."
The harvested plums were shared amongst the residents and were well received.
The garden looks wonderful and all residents who took part are particularly proud of all the work they did. |
